Worcester Warriors Mike Ruddock wary of big signings

James Hook
Hook has played 37 internationals for Wales.

Worcester Warriors director of rugby Mike Ruddock has said that buying international players can be a risky because of heavy fixture lists.

Scotland fly-half Mike Blair and Welsh international James Hook have recently been linked with the Warriors.

Ruddock told BBC Hereford and Worcester: "It would be great to have a current international joining us.

"On the other had it could be a disadvantage as well, so we have to weigh those things up."

He added: "You have to weigh up, they can be away for autumn internationals, Six Nations, summer tours and the World Cup. So that means a lot of time away from the club."

Ruddock admits he would be interested in signing Blair but would be wary of his international commitments.

"We are always looking at what is out there, but we have to weigh up the quality of the player and how they fit in.

"Mike Blair is a fantastic player, but we have think about how many games he would play for us."

Worcester Warriors have yet to comment on reports that Hook could be joining them.

The 24-year-old is believed to be unsettled with the Ospreys, where he has been playing in the centre rather than in his preferred fly-half spot.

Cardiff Blues recently had an approach to the Ospreys to talk to Hook turned down, and have signed Scottish international Dan Parks for next season.
