Walker enjoying his Sixways loan

Gloucester's utility back Willie Walker says he is enjoying his loan spell at Worcester as he is getting valuable game time in meaningful matches.

The 30-year-old New Zealand Maori was down the pecking order at Gloucester so was glad of the opportunity to play.

He told BBC Hereford & Worcester: "I am enjoying it, especially after the win [over Wasps] at the weekend as life is a lot easier when you are winning.

"It has been good to get involved with a new side and just to get some rugby."

Walker's stock rose among the Warriors fans in the final minute of the 13-12 win over Wasps at Sixways when he dropped the goal that was to earn Worcester what was only their fourth Guinness Premiership win of the season.

You don't want to be just training and hoping to play, you want to be playing as often as you cane

Walker felt that side had been good value for that win and he feels Warriors are a better side than their 11th place in the table would suggest.

"I think this side has been unlucky at times throughout the season," he said. "The personnel and the structures don't really dictate where the team stands in the table.

"They are a better side than where they are and hopefully I can help change that around."

"With what they have done here, especially with the stadium and the redevelopments, together with the players that they have got, they are side that is destined for better things," he added.

The arrival at Kingsholm of Carlos Spencer means that Walker is probably even further away from a starting spot for Gloucester but he was determined not to dwell on this, preferring instead to take on a new challenge.

Only 24 hours after learning of Worcester's interest he was joining up with his new team-mates and is determined to give his best for the Warriors during his time at Sixways.

"I could have stayed at Gloucester and maybe not played for the rest of the season," he said.

"But I came here and there is an opportunity to get a bit more football and that's what you want to do.

"You don't want to be just training and hoping to play, you want to be playing as often as you can."
