Rhodes hopes for successful tour

Worcestershire's players head for South Africa with coach Steve Rhodes hoping it will have the desired effect.

Rhodes explained the reasons for taking his side away on Monday 23 March.

The Worcestershire chief said: "We've not been aboard in the recent past, we have tried to save that money and maybe pay for another player.

"We have not had good early season form of late, and the tour may not necessarily be the answer but what's the harm in giving it a go.

He told BBC Hereford and Worcester the squad had worked hard since reporting back in November:

We have some local opposition as well, and if all goes well we will come back firing.

"The other aspect is about the tour is because of the 12 month contracts we have had a long winter.

"If it's a bit of reward for the players for the hard work they have put in, then that will put the icing in the cake.

"We are looking forward to Potchefstroom, Durham are going to be there, they are Division One champions, and we play three days against them.

"We have some local opposition as well, and if all goes well we will come back firing.

"There's not much time between us coming back and the first game against Hampshire."

BBC Hereford and Worcester will once again provide full ball-by-ball commentary on all Worcestershire's games in the summer of 2009.
