Mullen has played in 10 of Worcester's 12 games this season
Young Worcester Warriors prop Matt Mullen is not taking anything for granted despite establishing himself as first choice for the club.
The 21-year-old has played in 10 of the club's 12 games this season.
The academy product told BBC Hereford & Worcester: "I got the chance in pre-season with injuries, played three games and stayed there.
"But it's not a question of resting on my laurels, there's always pressure for places here."
Mullen says he has learned a lot from veteran Tony Windo, who retired at the end of last season to join the Warriors coaching staff.
"Last year he kept a lot to himself as he was still playing, he told me that, but this season he's taught me a lot more.
"He points out what you have done wrong, and again if you have done something right, or he's told you to so something and you have done it well he moves on.
"I got a nice taste of it last year, but had a bad day against Harlequins here at home.
Tony Windo played 20 years of top-class rugby
"But Mike [Ruddock] showed some faith in me and said I would be on the bench or starting all season, and I picked up 20-odd appearances."
Mullen says he does get some advice, and a lot of stick, from the older members of the front row union, Chris Horsman and Darren Morris.
"They are all keen to help as well, and I joked about Reg [Tony Windo] not letting on but if you do go and ask you they are happy to work with you."
Mullen has also played as a hooker for Worcester but says he is happy holding up the man in the middle of the front row.
"This year I am concentrating as being prop, last season I had six weeks at Pertemps Bees, and only played hooker, but when I came back Mike said did I want to play prop.
"I played two games in the A team and he put me in for the European games and did well and have stayed there."
Warriors play Saracens at Vicarage Road on Sunday at 1500 GMT and there will be full commentary on BBC Hereford & Worcester 104 FM.
