Brits made his South Africa debut as a replacement against Italy in 2008 |
Saracens have signed South African international hooker Schalk Brits from Super 14 side the Stormers. The 27-year-old, who is also a regular with Western Province, made his Springboks debut last summer against Italy and played in the Tri Nations. Sarries beat off competition from a number of European clubs to sign Brits. "Schalk is a world class player right in his prime, he has the X factor that can turn the game in an instant," said director of rugby Brendan Venter. "He has fantastic skills, it's no surprise that many major European clubs have been trying to sign him. "We are delighted he has chosen to play his rugby at Saracens." Brits could face Saracens team-mate Steve Borthwick on 30 May as he has been picked for the Barbarians squad that will face England at Twickenham.
