Ospreys forwards coach Jonathan Humphreys says he and coach Sean Holley want to see a replacement for former boss Lyn Jones, who quit in May.
Humphreys admits the pair of them are on trial at the region while the hunt for Jones' successor continues.
"The great coaches out there are not available at the drop of a hat," Humphreys said.
"We'd love someone to come in and take us to the next level as coaches and I expect someone to come in this season."
He added: "It's a fair perception from people looking in from the outside that Sean and I are on trial going into the season, but we see it slightly differently.
"We are welcoming the fact that if the right person comes along that he comes in here, because as young coaches we want to learn from the best.
"We'd love for some guy to come in here and take us to the next level as coaches.
"As we see it, if it is to happen, then hopefully we are preparing a very, very good vehicle to push on by the time this person becomes involved."
However, Humphreys said he and Holley have the confidence of elite performance director Andrew Hore and the region's directors going into the new season.
The ex-Cardiff, Bath and Wales captain and hooker said: "Sometimes you have to wait for the right person.
"If that person is available then what's been said is that the management have enough confidence in us to wait as long as it takes, whether that's six months or a year.
"The focus is to bring someone in to develop us and hopefully they will do that."
