Rees has enjoyed a highly successful two years at Neath RFC
Gruff Rees has left his backs coaching role at Neath RFC to become skills coach at the Ospreys.
Ex-Glamorgan Wanderers coach Rees, 32, joined the All Blacks in 2006, forming a highly successful partnership with coach Rowland Phillips.
Ospreys Elite Performance Director Andrew Hore says there will be more back-room appointments at the region, including a new conditioning coach.
"The coaching staff will be bolstered further," the Kiwi told BBC Sport.
"It's going to be different to last year, there will be a lot bigger staff.
"There will be other in-house appointments, and we are bringing in an in-house coaching development programme."
Hore was brought in from New Zealand by the big-spending Ospreys midway through last season and began a wide-ranging review review of the organisation.
Coach Lyn Jones left the region in May, and Hore has confirmed that assistant coaches Sean Holley and Jonathan Humphreys will lead the Ospreys into next season, with the hunt continuing for a big-name overseas coach to take the top job.
"We want to develop Welsh players and coaches, and to help that we need to find the right man to be a strong mentor," Holley told BBC Radio Wales' The Back Page programme.
New recruit Rees has been working as skills coach at the Ospreys academy, as well as playing a part with Wales Under-18, Wales Under-19 and the Wales Sevens side.
Hale T-Pole has left after eight months at the Ospreys
"In many ways it is hard to leave a club [Neath] that has such a strong infrastructure for success, both on and off the field, and a firm commitment to improving standards in Wales," said Rees.
"However, my regional skills work has grown and the opportunity to have a greater influence across the range of the player development pathway and working in such a robust and fast moving environment is hugely exciting."
Meanwhile, Tongan international back-rower Hale T-Pole has left the Ospreys.
The 29-year-old joined on a short-term contract from Super 14 side Highlanders last October, making eight appearances for the Welsh region.
