Northampton Saints wing Paul Diggin agrees a new deal

Northampton Saints winger Paul Diggin has signed a new contract with his home-town club.

Diggin, 25, made the first of his 94 appearances for the Saints while still on the club's academy books in 2003-04.

He becomes the ninth member of the current squad to recently commit his future to Northampton, following the likes of Bruce Reihana and Ben Foden.

"Northampton has been my home and Saints have been a big part of my life for nine years," said Diggin.

"When you look around the team I'm now one of the oldest in the squad.

He added: "That's the way it is at the club now - we've got a young and enthusiastic group of players who are massively ambitious. The coaches have built a squad that can compete in every competition. We also have the stability which has been much-needed.

"There have been some good times and bad times since I've been at the club. Hopefully we can kick on now, and not be looking over our shoulders," Diggin said.

Director of rugby Jim Mallinder added: "Paul is a determined player and gives 100 per cent for the team.

"Northampton is his home-town club and it's obvious how much he enjoys playing in the first team. We're happy that he's staying at the club."

Diggin, whose latest deal marks the third successive contract he has signed at Franklin's Gardens, has scored 41 tries for Northampton.
