Mujati to join Northampton early

Brian Mujati
Mujati has been capped 12 times by South Africa

Springboks prop Brian Mujati has been released early to join Northampton for the start of the Guinness Premiership.

The 24-year-old was originally due to arrive at the end of this year's Currie Cup in South Africa, where he was due to play for Western Province.

Instead he will now join up with his new Saints team-mates for a training camp in France next week.

He will be available for selection for Thursday's friendly game against Begles-Bordeaux in Capbreton.

Mujati, who can play at loose-head or tight-head, will boost Saints' propping resources in the absence of Euan Murray.

The Scot ruptured ankle ligaments on the British and Irish Lions' tour of South Africa which forced him out before the first Test.

Murray was initially expected to be on the sidelines for up to six months but Saints report he is progressing well five weeks into his rehabilitation and is currently ahead of schedule.
