Long practice pays off for Myler

Stephen Myler
Myler landed 13 points with his boot against Bath

Northampton Saints' Stephen Myler has put his kicking success down to plenty of hard work over the last 18 months.

Myler has an 88% success rate with the boot in the Premiership this season and helped the Saints to a draw against leaders Bath at the weekend.

"At the start of last season, before we played in National One, there was a lot of work done in the pre-season.

"I just think it's taken a little bit of time for that work to come through," he told BBC Radio Northampton.

"A bit of confidence always helps and regularly kicking under match conditions is something different to training because you have got the fatigue element and the added pressure of the crowd focusing on you."

Myler played at full-back against Bath as Carlos Spencer regained his place, at the expense of Myler, at fly-half.

"I still see myself as a 10," added Myler.

"Jim (Mallinder) selected me at full-back but whatever position I play I just do my best for the team."
