Ellis has coached in rugby league as well as with England and the Lions

London Irish have brought in France's defence coach Dave Ellis to bolster their resources.

Ellis has signed a one-year contract with an option to extend after leaving French club Brive. He has also had spells coaching Castres and Gloucester.

He replaces Barrie-Jon Mather, who returned to rugby league coaching earlier in the summer.

Ellis will continue to perform his duties with France, a position he has held for the past 10 years.
