Belfast Giants player/coach Steve Thornton
Steve Thornton is building up his roster for the new season

The Belfast Giants have replaced the departing David Phillips with his older brother Kevin.

David is leaving the Odyssey to join Rockford IceHogs, an affiliate team of NHL side the Chicago Blackhawks.

Kevin arrives from EPL side the Slough Jets, with the defenceman scoring seven goals in 40 games last season.

"I'm excited at the prospect of playing in Belfast. I've heard only good things from Davy about the organisation, the fans and the city," said Kevin.

He added: "With the team that coach Steve Thornton has put together, I have no doubt that we'll be up there with the best come the end of the season."

The 23-year-old has also played for Hull Stingrays and London Racers.

Kevin won gold with Great Britain at the U18 World Championships in 2004 and captained the U20 team to gold a year later.
