Mahonri Schwalger will be at Llanelli Scarlets two more seasons |
Hooker Mahonri Schwalger will play for Llanelli Scarlets for two more years after signing a new contract. Schwalger, 29, has played in two World Cups for Samoa and for New Zealand teams Hawkes Bay, Wellington, Hurricanes and Highlanders. "I had the chance to play in England but I'm more than happy to have signed for the Scarlets," said Schwalger. "I enjoy the Scarlets' style of play and playing in front of the crowd. It's great to be with such a famous team." Schwalger played his first game for the Scarlets as a replacement against Clermont Auvergne on 19 January just hours after arriving from New Zealand. He has gone on to make six appearances and will be in competition with Wales hooker Matthew Rees and promising Ken Owens when next season kicks off.
