Slater was Tigers player of the month in October

Leicester Tigers lock Ed Slater is thrilled to have agreed a new one-year contract with the club.

Slater, 22, has become a crucial figure for Tigers as the squad has become stretched by injuries and international call-ups for the Six Nations.

"The deal is something I have really wanted and worked hard for," Slater told BBC Radio Leicester.

"I hope I've proved I want to be at the club. I have a lot more to offer and I'm excited by it [new deal]."

Slater has seized his chance with Leicester after joining on loan from Championship side Nottingham.

He was named the club's player of the month for October.

Slater only made his debut for Nottingham in March 2010 but was quickly snapped up by Tigers.
