Nixon began his professional career in 1987 |
Veteran Leicestershire star Paul Nixon faces surgery on a twisted knee and only has an "outside chance" of being fit for the start of the season. The former England wicket-keeper, 40, needs an exploratory operation. Coach Phil Whitticase told BBC Radio Leicester: "We are optimistic on four weeks which will give him an outside chance of being fit for day one." Leicestershire start their County Championship season with a home game against Glamorgan on Friday, 8 April. Nixon, who signed a new deal at Grace Road in October, will continue to play as a batsmen this term with Tom New carrying on the wicket-keeping duties.
