Phil Whitticase delight at Nathan Buck boost

Phil Whitticase on Nathan Buck

Leicestershire head coach Phil Whitticase says bowler Nathan Buck's prolonged stay with the England Lions is great news for his development.

Buck was picked as a late replacement for Steven Finn for the tour to the West Indies and will stay with the team until the trip ends in late March.

Whitticase told BBC Radio Leicester: "We are really pleased for Nathan.

"The feedback from the coaches and management is that he has done exceptionally well."

Buck, who took 49 wickets in last season's County Championship, and Leicestershire team-mate James Taylor have both been with the England set-up on the two-month trip and both have made a good impression.

Whitticase added: "The coaches are really pleased and it's thoroughly deserved but our loss is their gain.

"He will join up with us at the end of March, as will James Taylor.

"Ultimately the best option for us is to have them here on day one but we have to look at their progression as cricketers - and they are both progressing very quickly."
