Slater honoured by Tigers player award

On-loan Leicester Tigers lock Ed Slater admits his success at Welford Road has come as a surprise.

The 22-year-old is on loan from Championship side Nottingham but international call-ups and injuries have helped him become a regular.

He has seized his chance, winning the player of the month award for October.

"During pre-season I anticipated just watching and learning but it has worked out really well," the forward told BBC East Midlands Today.

Slater, who only joined the Green & Whites towards the end of last season, has played ten games for the Tigers so far this season and started all five of the matches in October.

"I have taken my opportunity I like to think," Slater added. "Cockers [director of rugby Richard Cockerill] has given me a chance and put a bit of trust in me.

"But so far so good. There is still a long way to go and a lot to learn but there is not a better place to be than Leicester and I'm really enjoying it."
