Christian Lewis-Pratt wants to prove a point at Leeds

Christian Lewis-Pratt says he will use his frustrating spell at Northampton to motivate him at Leeds Carnegie.

The 19-year-old fly-half was limited to A-team games last season at Franklin's Gardens and sees his move to Headingley as a chance to prove a point.

Lewis-Pratt told BBC Radio Leeds: "Things last season didn't happen how I wanted them to.

"I'm very determined to prove to myself that I can do it and that things will go much better here at Leeds."

Lewis-Pratt will battle it out with Ceiron Thomas and fellow new boy Lachlan MacKay for the number 10 shirt, while also spending time at Doncaster on loan.

"I'm very excited to be in a new environment," he added. "I needed that and want to get going with it all.

"However things go for me this year I know I just have to play well and see how it goes.

"I chose Leeds because I wasn't entirely happy at Northampton. I then saw Joe Ford joining Northampton from Leeds and saw a gap in the market at Leeds.

"I spoke to Andy Key [director of rugby] and Neil Back [head coach] about the opportunities here and felt it was the right move for me.

"It all happened very quickly as I liked what I saw immediately in terms of both the club and Leeds as a city too. It's a great place to live."

Leeds academy product Ford burst onto the first-team scene last season after impressive performances in both the A team and on loan at Wharfedale.

He eventually became Leeds' second-choice fly-half before his summer move to Northampton and Lewis-Pratt hopes to have similar success.

"I want to be a first-team player but I understand that it will not come easily," he said. "My first aim to get some good performances in the A league and with Doncaster as I didn't get enough game time at fly-half last season.

"So I just need to build up my game time, gain more experience and then hopefully prove to the coaching staff that I am capable of playing in the first team.

"Joe Ford got his opportunities here last season as a young fly-half, so I'm hoping there will be some possibilities here for me too.

"I think you look at Leeds and the coaches and it is clear to see that if you work hard and prove yourself you'll be given a chance.

"The coaches are very honest and say if you are playing well enough and doing what it takes to earn a place then they'll give you the place.

"There's no hierarchy here, the team is one very tight unit and whoever is doing the best job at the time will be on the pitch, no matter what your name or where you are from."
