FRIENDS PROVIDENT t20, Edgbaston: Warwickshire 145-8 (20 ovs) beat Yorkshire 131 (19.5 ovs) by 14 runs Match scorecard
Yorkshire batsman Adam Lyth treads on his stumps to be dismissed for 31 in his side's defeat by Warwickshire at Edgbaston
Keith Barker finished with a hat-trick as Warwickshire booked their place in the quarter-finals of the FP t20 with victory over Yorkshire at Edgbaston. The left-arm seamer (4-19) had Rich Pyrah and Clint McKay caught before bowling David Wainwright in the final over as Yorkshire were all out for 131. Warwickshire were earlier grateful to Rikki Clarke's 39 in their 145-8. It was the lowest total the Bears had successfully defended in Twenty20 cricket as they won by 14 runs. At one stage it looked as though the home side would set an even smaller target after slumping to 97-7 with only 25 balls left. But Clark was given able support from Chris Woakes, who hit 27 off just 12 balls to help give his side something to defend, despite both Wainwright and Steven Patterson taking three wickets. | 606: DEBATE |
Adam Lyth and Herschelle Gibbs helped Yorkshire's reply, which was held up early on by a rain delay, get off to a brisk start. But once Stefan Piolet forced Lyth (31) to tread on his stumps, spinners Ant Botha and Imran Tahir turned the screw, conceding just 35 in eight overs, before Barker completed the job. Lancashire's victory over North Group leaders Nottinghamshire means that second-placed Warwickshire are not yet assured of a home quarter-final, while Yorkshire need to win both their remaining games to stand any chance of progressing.
