Coach Back promises Leeds Carnegie will bounce back

Head coach Neil Back insists Leeds Carnegie will bounce back from their 46-11 hammering at Harlequins.

The result was Leeds' second heaviest defeat of the season and keeps them just three points above bottom club Worcester with three games to play.

"A result like this will not happen again," Back told BBC Radio Leeds.

"We will learn some tough lessons from this and get better for it. We were guilty of trying too hard as individuals and not playing as a team."

Back added: "If this kind of result has happened six or seven times this season we might be more concerned, but it hasn't, so we are not panicking.

"This result does not reflect where Leeds Carnegie are and we will all work hard to put it right."

Leeds trailed by 14 points with 20 minutes remaining of Saturday's match, but leaked 26 points after they were reduced to 14 men by Calum Clark's sin-binning for a late tackle.

Back defended the player. "Calum is passionate and desperate to do well for the club and his team-mates and he just went over the line with that."

"He should have pulled out of the challenge and I have no complaints about the sin-binning. His heads down but we need to pick him up now because he is key to us achieving our goals this season.

"Calum started the game ahead of Kearnan [Myall] because we felt it gave a better balance to the back-row in regards to matching Quins.

"I stand by that selection policy and I was hopeful Kearnan would have come off the bench in a better situation so he could play his part in helping us win the game, but that wasn't meant to be.

Leeds now go to London Irish on Sunday before hosting Worcester seven days later, but Back will not be resting players for the trip to the Madejski Stadium.

"We'll be putting out our best side available for next week in an attempt to win that match," he confirmed.

"I've been around the block long enough to know that when you lose you look a lot more fatigued when you lose than when you win, so that's not a concern."
