John Brain returns to Gloucester in a scouting capacity
Brain made 285 appearances for Gloucester in his playing career
Former Gloucester forwards coach John Brain is returning to the club as a scout until the end of the season.
The ex-Cherry and Whites lock left Kingsholm in 2001 to become director of rugby at Worcester and was Bristol's forwards coach from 2007-10.
"Gloucester have a relatively small coaching team in comparison with some other Premiership clubs," Brain told BBC Radio Gloucestershire.
"They need someone out there who's keeping their eye on the rugby market."
The task of finding potential new targets for 2011-12 is already underway, with Brain's arrival intended to add to the work done so far by head coach Bryan Redpath and forwards coach Carl Hogg.
Brain left Bristol in a cost-cutting measure at the end of 2009-10 but says he is excited about returning to the club where he made his name.
"It's an interesting job, an interesting remit, I'm working for a club that for obvious reasons is held dear to my heart," he said.
"I played a lot of games for it, started my coaching career there with Philippe Saint-Andre and I've lived in the city all this time, so I've got a good understanding of the culture, the fans and the city."
