Gloucester centre Henry Trinder hopes to make the most of regaining full fitness with a sustained run in the Cherry and Whites first-team squad.

The 21-year-old came off the bench against Saracens on Saturday to create Charlie Sharples' match-winning try.

Trinder told BBC Gloucestershire: "Last year was riddled with injury - it was not the best season coming off the back of the Under-20s world cup in Japan.

"This is the season where I've got to push and ensure I stay in the squad."

Trinder's career stalled last term because of complications with a dead leg when bleeding under the muscle led to calcification.

It allowed Jonny May, who at 20 is a year younger than Trinder, the chance to gain some first-team experience in an area where Gloucester already the likes of Mike Tindall, Eliota Fuimaono-Sapolu and Tim Molenaar.

Now though Trinder is trying to make up for lost time, but admits he is not the finished article.

"There's been good bits and bad bits, me and Brushy [head coach Bryan Redpath] are on the same sort of level on where I need to improve," he said.

"I think that's great, if you've got the same sort of targets and aims as the coach and the team you can do well as an individual and benefit the team."
