Gloucester welcome pleases Brett Deacon

Gloucester's new lock Brett Deacon said he revelled in the fans support during his debut in Saturday's pre-season 26-6 win over Scarlets at Kingsholm.

He told BBC Gloucestershire: "I caught a few balls when I played for Leicester here and got heckled from the Shed.

"One of the reasons I signed was the passion of the place. It was nice to have the fans on my side.

"One of our aims this season is to go unbeaten at Kingsholm. To score four tries was a great start."

Gloucester's other pre-season games are both away, at Ospreys and Munster, but Deacon has seen enough to be encouraged that Gloucester can have a good season.

"This year we are going to take it to teams up front, and we've got quick, strong backs to finish things off" added Deacon.

"Pre-season we've worked on our defence in and around the breakdown, and in the second half Scarlets had about 70% of the possession but when they made mistakes you could hear the crowd getting on their backs which was nice."
