Charlie Sharples has strengthened his push for a place in the Gloucester team for their season opener against Bath.

The 20-year-old wing touched down twice in their final warm up match against the Ospreys, with Lesley Vainikolo not risked due to a minor groin problem.

Sharples told BBC Gloucestershire: "I've got to respect that the players ahead of me have achieved a lot.

"I can't expect to just waltz straight in. When you get an opportunity, it's a case of trying to staying in the team."

He added: "Then the decision comes down to the coaches. All I can do is play my best and let them know that I'm there."
