No more signings for Gloucester

Bryan Redpath
Redpath is starting his fifth season at Gloucester, but his first as head coach

Gloucester head coach Bryan Redpath has insisted the club will not sign any more players ahead of the new season.

The former Scotland scrum half told BBC Gloucestershire, centre Tim Molenaar, who joined from Nottingham on Monday, would be the last acquisition.

"When you get this close to the season you want to bed down the group."

"We'll assess if we need more but I'm not looking to bring any more in. We need to get everyone up to speed for the start of the Premiership."

Tim Molenaar became the fifth signing this summer by Gloucester from outside the Premiership.

The other four have been Paul Doran-Jones (London Welsh), Darren Dawidiuk (Cornish Pirates), Rupert Harden (Tynedale) and Dave Attwood (Bristol), and Redpath says that reflects a shift in thinking.

"People have generally gone abroad and bought players, but in the current climate clubs haven't necessarily done that. I don't the Premiership has gone as far afield this year and picked up as many big names."
