Rabeni's Gloucester move stopped

Seru Rabeni
Rabeni made 62 appearances in five years at Leicester

Former Leicester Tigers centre Seru Rabeni will not be joining Gloucester after failing a medical at Kingsholm.

The 30-year-old, who has a history of knee problems, suffered a cartilage injury while playing for Fiji at the Pacific Nations Cup in June.

Flanker Andy Hazell told BBC Radio Gloucestershire: "It's a shame for Seru but we wish him well.

"As players we've got to move on. We've got a small squad, we'll try and knit together and get some good results."

The Premiership club has had four centres leave this summer.

Gloucester start their Premiership season against Bath on September 6 and begin their pre-season programme this weekend against the same opposition in a joint testimonial for Hazell and Bath hooker Lee Mears.

Their other two pre-season games are against Connacht and Ospreys.
