Marcus Trescothick hit an unbeaten 80 as Somerset hammered Gloucestershire by eight wickets in Pro40 Division One.

Batting first at Nevil Road, the home side were quickly in trouble at 27-4 and then 51-5 thanks to Alfonso Thomas (4-18) and Ben Phillips (3-24).

Steve Adshead (34) and Jon Lewis (23) added 50 for the sixth wicket, but the hosts were bowled out for 116.

Somerset lost Craig Kieswetter and James Hildreth, but Trescothick saw them home with over 21 overs to spare.

After the hosts won the toss, Thomas struck twice in the first over, removing Kadeer Ali and Alex Gidman for ducks.

Phillips then had James Franklin caught by Wes Durston at slip and Will Porterfield and Hamish Marsahll both caught by Peter Trego to leave Gloucestershire in dire trouble at 51-5.

Adshead and Lewis led a fight back of sorts, but Thomas and Mark Turner (3-27) wrapped up the tail to see the home side bowled out in just 28.2 overs.

Former England batsman Trescothick, who has ruled out an international comeback for the fifth Ashes Test, then smashed 11 fours and four sixes to ensure that Somerset warmed up for Twenty20 finals day in the best possible fashion.
