New Gloucester lock Dave Attwood has targeted a regular place in the first team squad after joining from Bristol earlier in the summer.

The 22-year-old will have to compete with Alex Brown, Peter Buxton, Marco Bortolami, Will James and Adam Eustace for places in the second row.

"I don't see this as a development year for me, I'm here and I mean business," Attwood told BBC Radio Gloucestershire

"I want to get involved in the first team squad and get on the team sheet."

Attwood is part of a number of Gloucester players who were not injured and did not go on summer tours who began pre-season training on 1st June.

The former Bristol university student feels he is benefitting from starting a month earlier than normal.

"I certainly feel like I've gained quite a lot, as I wanted to when I decided to come to Gloucester," said Attwood.

"The things that I identified that I wanted to work on I've been able to get so far, and I'm looking forward to how I'm going to shape up for the rest of the season."
