Rabeni's season ended after he was banned for eye-gouging |
Gloucester have signed Seru Rabeni from Premiership rivals Leicester. The 30-year-old Fijian, who can operate at centre or on the wing, has signed a three-year contract at Kingsholm. "Seru's signing is great news for us, particularly at this point in the season," said Gloucester head coach Dean Ryan. "He is a player of great quality and physicality. His versatility and familiarity across positions can only strengthen our options." Rabeni represented Fiji in the 2003 and 2007 World Cups and has also played Super 14 rugby with the Highlanders. He joined Leicester in 2004 and scored five tries in 21 appearances during the club's double-winning campaign of 2006/07. "I am delighted to be joining Gloucester although it was a very tough decision to make, after five years at Welford Road," said Rabeni, who scored a total of 90 points in 62 appearances for the club. | 606: DEBATE Charlie Henderson, BBC Sport |
"The support I have received during this period of time from both the club and fans has been fantastic and I wish Leicester every success in the future. "It is now time for me to move on to another challenge, and hopefully help Gloucester to lift some silverware, continue the good work and progress the team has so far achieved under Dean Ryan and Bryan Redpath. "There are some great players at the club and it will be an honour and privilege to work and fight with them in Gloucester's cause." Rabeni's season was ended after his appeal against a 14-week ban for eye-gouging was dismissed by the Rugby Football Union.
