Gidman is in his first season as Gloucestershire captain

Gloucestershire captain Alex Gidman hit a career-best 159 to help the home side take control against Leicestershire on day two at Nevil Road.

Gidman struck 21 fours and a six before being caught at slip by HD Ackerman off the bowling of Carl Crowe (3-84).

He also shared a seventh-wicket stand of 128 with Steve Snell (69 not out) as the hosts replied to Leicestershire's first innings score of 133.

Gloucestershire had reached 361-7 when bad light brought about an early close.
