Forrester is back in full training at Kingsholm |
Gloucester have confirmed number eight James Forrester is on course to be fit for the start of the new season. The 27-year-old has not played for 15 months since having a knee operation, but is now training normally alongside the rest of the Gloucester squad. His return is crucial with Gareth Delve and Akapusi Qera out until Christmas. "He's doing exactly the same as every one else, including taking contact. I'm delighted he's back," coach Bryan Redpath told BBC Radio Gloucestershire. Forrester ruptured ligaments in his right knee during Gloucester's 35-13 victory over Bristol near the end of the 2006/07 season. That injury cost him a chance of playing for England in the World Cup. "He's done all the conditioning, and he's trained with us all week as we've started some rugby sessions," Redpath added. "He's now got to get through those before we say he's going to do this or he's going to do that, but he's back in the mix in terms of training." Meanwhile, Gloucester will start and finish their Heineken Cup pool games against French side Biarritz. Gloucester will have home advantage in the opening game on Saturday 11 October and travel to France for the final round of games at the end of January. Gloucester's matches against Italian side Calvisano are on consecutive weekends in December, with the first game at home. They play Cardiff away in October and at home in January.
