Most of Ryan's squad will stay at Kingsholm next season |
Gloucester head coach Dean Ryan has talked down the chance of much new recruitment at Kingsholm this summer. Last year more than 20 players either joined or left the cherry and whites in the closed season. Ryan told BBC Radio Gloucestershire: "Once we established a group which we thought could stay together, then we would try and keep them together." "There's not a huge amount to be gained by mass changes because it takes time for people to learn what you do." He added: "The benefits of a player having another year quite often outweigh the benefits of another player coming in. When you get that group right, you are just adding small numbers." And Ryan says Gloucester's disappointment at missing out on the Premiership final after finishing top of the table should not provoke a knee-jerk reaction: "Rugby is emotional, and if you experience upset you get low about it. It's time to change if people choose not to learn, and that's not now," he said.
