Jones made just five appearances for Edinburgh

Full-back Steve Jones has left Edinburgh to sign for Exeter Chiefs.

The 27-year-old Scotland A international moved to Edinburgh from Newcastle in the summer but only made five appearances.

"I've enjoyed my time at Edinburgh and the city itself is stunning," Jones told the Scottish club's website.

"But I've decided to move on. My main goal is to help Exeter to get promotion to the Premiership. I'm really looking forward to the challenge."

Jones' international career has seen him play for both Scotland Under-21s and Scotland A.

He started his career playing rugby league, appearing for both Huddersfield Giants and Batley Bulldogs before switching codes in 2005.

Chiefs head coach Rob Baxter said: "Steve has been prepared to walk away from Edinburgh to prove he should be playing regular, high level rugby.

"From a coaching point of view, it is great to see a player who is prepared to back himself to such an extent."
