Fearns takes the game to Bath earlier in the Premiership season |
Bath have bolstered the options in their pack with the signings of young forwards Carl Fearns and Charlie Beech. Highly-rated Sale back row Fearns, 21, who has made 56 appearances for the club having broken into the team in October 2008, joins on a two-year deal. He has played for England U16s, U18s and U20s and was nominated for the 2009 Junior World Player of the Year award. Beech, 23, has also represented England through the age groups and the Wasps prop has signed a three-year contract. He came through the ranks at Northampton before moving to Wasps and has made 31 appearances for the club, with seven starts to his name since his debut in October 2007. Beech is a ready-made replacement for Aaron Jarvis, who is heading to the Ospreys, and the club have previously been linked with Fearns in their search to recruit a back-row forward with skipper Luke Watson set to return to South Africa in the summer. Head coach Steve Meehan said: "Carl and Charlie will both be very welcome additions to the squad. "They both have top-level experience already, both having made strong first-team appearances, which will be very valuable to us." Performance director Sir Ian McGeechan added: "We are thrilled that these two, very promising young players have decided to join. They both have very good set skills in their positions and will only get better over the coming seasons." The pair join Gloucester lock Dave Attwood, Leicester centre Dan Hipkiss and St Helens' England scrum-half Kyle Eastmond in signing deals to move to the Rec for the 2011/12 season.
