Biggs has played for England Sevens and England Under-21s |
Bath have signed Newcastle winger Tom Biggs on a three-year deal while full-back Nick Abendanon has penned a two-year contract extension. Biggs, 25, will join Bath in the summer after just one season at the Falcons having joined from Leeds Carnegie. Head coach Steve Meehan said: "Tom is a real handful for any opposition and we feel he is about to enter his prime. "There was a lot of interest in Nick, and him staying reflects the great spirit within the club." Biggs made his debut for Leeds in the 2004 season and was part of the side that beat Bath that year in the Powergen Cup Final at Twickenham. He was a regular in the England Sevens set-up as well as playing at Under-21 level. | Both Nick and Tom have good pace and possess the ability to create something from nothing, with is a rare talent and something that we value greatly here |
"Bath is an historic club with a host of great players who play an exciting style of rugby," said Biggs. "Having watched the match against London Irish and seen Bath come away with a bonus point win, I am just thrilled to be able to become a part of it. Abendanon made his debut for Bath in 2005, having come through the academy system, and has scored 17 tries in 96 first-team appearances. Meehan added: "Both Nick and Tom have good pace and possess the ability to create something from nothing, with is a rare talent and something that we value greatly here. "We witnessed, just last weekend, a performance from Nick that would concern the best of defences. "And now with his contract extension off his mind, we are looking forward to seeing more of the same level for the remainder of the season."
