Colchester moved up to third in League One with a hard-fought victory on a muddy pitch at mid-table Yeovil.
The U's, who go above Charlton, grabbed the only goal seven minutes before the break when Clive Platt picked out Kayode Odejayi to rifle home.
Yeovil's Dean Bowditch shot over when clean through, before team-mate Owain Tudur Jones shot inches wide.
Tudur Jones also fired a late free-kick into the side-netting, but Colchester hung on for a crucial three points.
Yeovil Town boss Terry Skiverton told BBC Somerset:
"The energy, the tempo and the levels of commitment I've got no complaints with. I'm proud of the players and I appreciate the amount of effort they are putting in.
"A bit more quality in that final third and maybe we can start punishing teams like we seem to get punished ourselves.
"I think the supporters can go away happy, obviously they'll be disappointed, but they'll know that the players have tried their hearts out for their club."
Colchester United manager Aidy Boothroyd told BBC Essex:
"It was scrappy, we knew we'd have to defend because they are a good team.
"I thought, particularly after Saturday, we were excellent. We got the result and that's what counts.
"We did have a couple of wobbles, but we did enough to score more goals but it wasn't one-sided."
