Bath have appointed former player Martin Haag as their forwards coach.

Haag enjoyed a distinguished career at Bath between 1987 and 2001 and has since worked as a coach at Bristol and assistant coach to England's Under-20s.

"This was a chance I could not turn down and I'm excited about working with head coach Steve Meehan, the coaching staff and the squad," said Haag.

Former lock Haag, 43, replaces New Zealander Mark Bakewell who is leaving Bath after three seasons at the Rec.

Haag, who has had two spells coaching the Bath Academy, joined the RFU Academy in June 2008 and helped the U20s reach the second consecutive final at the recent Junior World Championships.

Head coach Meehan said: "Martin is well known to the Bath players and supporters, did very well when with Bristol and has just enjoyed a successful period with the England U20s.

"As a former Bath player I'm sure he will bring a lot of the club ethos with him and that will benefit all of us."
