Noon has been in good form for the Falcons |
England have summoned Newcastle centre Jamie Noon to their training base as cover for the ill Mike Tindall ahead of Saturday's Test against Australia. Tindall is suffering from a stomach bug but is expected to recover in time.
If the England vice-captain is ruled out, Will Greenwood is likely to be promoted off the bench, with Noon joining the replacements.
Noon has been named in Newcastle's side for Sunday's game against Northampton, but his availability is now in doubt.
"We are not sure if we will have Jamie (Noon) available to us," said Falcons director of rugby Rob Andrew. "He has been called down to train with England to cover for illness, so even though I've named him in the team for Sunday, we don't know what his status is.
"I am hoping that I get him back before the weekend, but there is a possibility he might have to sit on the bench for England.
"Depending how much game time he gets for England - if any - I then have to make the decision of whether he is involved with us on Sunday."
Noon was one of eight players who joined the 22 on duty against South Africa for training at England's Bagshot base earlier in the week, but had subsequently returned north.
