Martin Corry insists beating South Africa will count for nothing if it is not followed by victory over Australia. Corry was outstanding against the Springboks as he strives to cement the England number eight spot after years of being a fringe player.
"I've had a fantastic time with England but now it's a question of taking it a step further and making a starting shirt my own," he said.
"That begins with Australia and all this will be forgotten if we stuff up."
Corry, 31, has won 32 caps since his debut against Argentina in 1997, but has only started 12 Tests.
His finest hour came with the 2001 Lions in Australia, where he was a late call-up to the tour and forced his way into the Test side.
The Leicester forward made the World Cup squads in 1999 and 2003, but only played against Uruguay in last year's tournament and was an unused replacement for the final victory over Australia.

But with the 'holy trinity' of Lawrence Dallaglio, Richard Hill and Neil Back now either retired or injured (Hill), Corry is relishing the prospect of a regular run in the side. "We had a meeting with Andy Robinson before the South Africa game and he looked round and said 'everyone has had frustrations with selection and it's time for that frustration to come out'," said Corry.
"That rang really true for me. When I was preparing mentally I was thinking 'right, I have waited a long time, I'm playing against probably the best team in the world at the minute and it's time for all the emotion to come out'."
Eight other players have joined the 22 on duty against South Africa for training this week ahead of the Australia clash.
They include rejuvenated Wasps hooker Phil Greening, who won the last of his 24 caps three years ago in the Grand Slam mishap in Ireland.
Newcastle prop Micky Ward, Harlequins prop Mike Worsley, Saracens number eight Hugh Vyvyan, Leicester lock Louis Deacon, Newcastle centre Jamie Noon, Bath fly-half Olly Barkley and Newcastle scrum-half Hall Charlton make up the 30-man training squad.
