Australia coach Eddie Jones says his team can still get better |
Australia coach Eddie Jones felt his side improved on their first Test performance in the 34-13 win over Scotland in Sydney on Saturday. Last weekend Australia beat Scotland 35-15 in Brisbane.
"It was much better. Five tries to one is a reasonable effort. Scotland played well, they defended well, attacked the breakdown extremely well," Jones said. "Some of our tactical kicking was better and our tackle contest work was much better."
But Jones admitted there were still areas in which Australia needed to improve.
"We need to certainly tighten up our ruck defence, that was a bit loose and Scotland exploited that."
Jones was impressed by Scotland's work at the breakdown, both in contesting the ball and attacking from the fringes.
"Scotland played well, defended very well and attacked the breakdown extremely well," he added.
"They made a few breaks in the centre. They are very clever in the way they work inside your first defender in the ruck and they did that quite well."
Australia captain George Gregan agreed that the Wallabies needed to work on their rucking and mauling before next Saturday's match against England.
"We will need to improve in that department going into Brisbane next week," he said.
