Brumbies skipper Mortlock has won 25 caps for Australia |
Australia coach Eddie Jones has recalled Stirling Mortlock and Phil Waugh for the second Test against Scotland on Saturday. Outside centre Mortlock returns after overcoming a knee injury which the ACT Brumbies captain suffered in May.
Australia lead the two-match series 1-0 after winning 35-15 in Melbourne last Sunday.
"I'm confident this combination will give us a good improvement on last week's performance," Jones said.
Mortlock's 26th Test cap forces South Africa-born utility back Clyde Rathbone on to the replacements bench. Utility back Matt Burke has been dropped. George Smith, who was replaced by Waugh at openside flanker in the second half of the first Test, has been relegated to the bench.
"I was really happy with Clyde's performance in his first Test but Stirling is an experienced player and we need him back out on the field."
Mortlock said he was disappointed to miss his side's victory in the Super 12 final against New Zealand's Canterbury Crusaders and Australia's first test against Scotland.
"But I knew if I was diligent with my recovery there was a chance I would only miss the first Test," Mortlock said.
