Scotland lock Stuart Grimes will have his appeal against a two-match suspension heard in Sydney on Thursday. Grimes was cited then banned from all rugby until 14 August for "trampling" on Australia number eight David Lyons during last Sunday's loss to Australia.
Scotland's appeal to the International Rugby Board is believed to be based on the severity of the sentence.
It rules Grimes out of Saturday's second Test and Newcastle's first pre-season friendly.
The board's appeals committee will be chaired by John Gleeson QC and will convene at the Australian Rugby Union's offices in Sydney at 0900 BST.
Grimes was suspended following a post-match citing by an independent official, despite the referee Paul Honiss dealing with the incident during the game.

But he has even been given backing in his appeal by Australia coach Eddie Jones. Jones said he recognised that what Grimes had done crossed the line between what is allowed and what is forbidden in the game, but he was unhappy at the way the referee was being over-ruled.
"Rucking is in the laws of the game, what the player did is not in the laws of the game," said Jones.
"I don't think you can discount the fact it was foolish, but at the same time it was dealt with on the field and we have got one of the best referees dealing with it as he felt it should be dealt with.
"At the end of the day, no-one was injured, no-one was hurt. It should be the end of the matter.
"I don't agree with the judiciary coming over the top of the referee."
Grimes' fellow second-rower, Scott Murray, could also miss the second Test after bruising his hip and suffering internal bleeding, but team doctor James Robson is confident he will recover.
"He'll be managed intensively by the medical team with a view to being involved in next week's Test," said Robson. "However, at the moment, his inclusion is not assured."
If he does miss out, Sale's Iain Fullarton, who required stitches to a facial wound, Newcastle's Craig Hamilton and Andy Hall would come into consideration.
One player definitely out, however, is Chris Paterson.
He has returned home after surgery to insert metal plates into a cheekbone shattered in the win over Samoa on 4 June.
