The Ospreys remain hopeful that Lions back-row Ryan Jones will be fit in time for their Heineken Cup home opener against Stade Francais on 23 October. Jones picked up another knock to his problem shoulder in Sunday's Powergen Cup loss to Bath at New Stadium.
The player originally injured the joint after returning from the Lions tour.
"It's still early with Ryan, he's going to be 50-50 for this week but hopefully up and running against Stade Francais," Ospreys coach Lyn Jones said.
However, the coach believes that Jones' shoulder might now be susceptible to further knocks and he must learn to live with the problem.
"It's the same shoulder he hurt before, he's had a 'stinger' on it," coach Jones added.
"I think it's one of those things he's going to have to learn to play with, otherwise he's not going to play at all this season - we'll just have to try and manage him as best we can."

Lions centre Gavin Henson will not return to action until December after groin surgery and fellow midfielder David Bishop is a long-term injury.
But the Ospreys coach is hopeful that Henson and Jones' fellow Lion Shane Williams is almost fit again, like Henson having undergone groin surgery.
Meanwhile, former All Blacks full-back Adrian Cashmore will arrive this week to bolster the Ospreys' ranks ahead of Friday night's home Celtic League match with Connacht.
"We'll see how Shane is shaping up as well, and Adrian Cashmore will be coming in on Tuesday so he'll be available to play this weekend," Jones said.
"What we've had is an injury crisis and what we're trying to do is turn that into is an injury problem.
"All teams have that usual two to three injuries, everybody carries that, but once you get over three you're into problem and after five injuries you're into a crisis."
