Scarlets wing Garan Evans acknowledged that his team were beaten by a better side after their 27-10 Heineken Cup quarter-final exit to Biarritz. "They kept the ball away from us with their driving maul and we just didn't know how to stop it," said Evans.
"We came back well and had some good chances, but couldn't finish them - that's just the way it goes sometimes.
"They are one of the strongest teams we've played against in Europe and have a great chance to win the Cup."
Despite the disappointment of a second successive home defeat in the quarter-finals, Evans believes that the Scarlets can pick themselves up to come again.
"Europe is a learning experience, the more you play, the more you learn," he told BBC Sport Wales.
"We definitely want to be back next year, but right now we have to pick ourselves up to try to win the Celtic League." Evans' view was endorsed by his coach Gareth Jenkins.
"We have been beaten by a better side, there is no doubt about that," said Jenkins.
"Biarritz have demonstrated that they are a quality team, and are probably the best French side we've played, but we were in there and competing.
"We gave ourselves the opportunities but didn't take them, and that was the difference between the two sides.
"They brought composure and stability to their game at the key times through their maul."
