The Tigers are out of the Heineken Cup following Friday's 26-13 defeat to Stade Francais at Welford Road. The home side scored two tries in the first half through Harry Ellis and Ollie Smith but failed to take charge as they missed five out of six kicks.
Diego Dominguez kept Stade in touch while David Auradou crossed from close range just before the break.
The French side defended well in the second half and Dominguez added two penalties and a try to seal victory.
The two teams had already met once in the competition, Stade winning 26-15. But this victory will be by far the sweeter given a place in the quarter-finals was at stake.
And the French champions richly deserved to progress.
Dominguez, 38 in April, proved the difference after booting 16 points and scoring an injury-time try.
In contrast, Leicester tried out four different kickers who failed to hit the target once in six attempts between them.
Leicester showed promise with tries from Ellis and Smith while number eight Henry Tuilagi caused Stade all sorts of problems.
But the Tigers went to pieces in the second half. It was a sorry way for Neil Back to mark his 300th Leicester appearance and Dorian West his 200th.
It was also a bitterly disappointing way for the club to bow out after their recent heroics against Ulster and Gwent Dragons.
