Hill is not looking to add to Worcester Warriors squad

Hill feels his current squad of 35 is strong enough to win promotion

Worcester Warriors head coach Richard Hill says he is not looking to add to his playing staff between now and the end of the Championship season.

The Warriors coach is confident in the ability he has within the squad and has cover in all key areas.

"My firm belief is we are capable of winning this league and the play-offs," he told BBC Hereford and Worcester.

"In my view there is no need at all to sign anyone and I haven't even thought about signing anybody else."

Warriors have been fortunate with injuries so far this season with only Chris Pennell (broken leg) and, Matt Mullan (shoulder) sidelined while Alex Grove is on a season-long loan with Edinburgh.

Mullan is expected to return early in the new year while Pennell is aiming for a return in time for the play-offs in March.

While Hill is taking nothing for granted in terms of the Championship promotion race he says the planning for next season is already well underway.

"We are talking to certain players at the moment and the aim is to get the vast majority of players contracted by 12 March and I am pretty confident we will do that," he said.

"The aim is to go into the play-offs with at least 22 players contracted here and so they have a massive incentive to do well in the play-offs.

"The worst thing you could do is to go into the play-offs with half-a-dozen players who are unsure about their future and therefore their motivation wouldn't be as great as someone who knows his future lies with the club," he added.

Hill is well aware his side has not yet put together a full 80 minutes of rugby this season but he insists it is only a matter of time until the side clicks.

"The danger is the more that I go on at the players the more frustrated they become," he said.

"We want them to relax and go out and play as I know they can play.

"We have had a fantastic training week and on Monday we had a full-on 15-versus-15 match and it was brutal.

"I got the players around me at the end and I didn't have to say anything to them as they knew that what they have to do is transfer that level of aggression and intensity to a match day.

"If they do that then we will begin to make these wins a lot more comfortable and we will batter the opposition."
