National One side Exeter Chiefs have signed 18-year-old fly-half Josh Matavesi on a two-year contract. Truro-born Matavesi came through the Chiefs academy and made the bench for their last home game of the season on Saturday, a 9-9 draw with Doncaster. "I'm really happy to be joining. I'm hoping to achieve my dream of playing for England one day," he said. Matavesi recently played on the winning side of the Daily Mail RSB School's U18's Cup with Truro College. The teenager was brought up in Cornwall after his father toured the county with the Fijian Barbarians and later played for Camborne. | Josh is an exciting, young player, who has already attracted the interest from England Under-20s Exeter Chiefs coach Rob Baxter |
Chiefs coach Rob Baxter said: "Josh is a very skilful player who is just as happy at full-back and centre. "He has already had a taste of life at Sandy Park during his two years with the academy and appearances for our united team. "Josh is an exciting, young player, who has already attracted the interest from England Under-20s, and I believe he will make a great contribution to the club." This is the teenager's first professional contract.
