Tynedale scored four tries to Southend's two |
Southend Rugby Club continued to struggle in National League Two after losing to newcomers Tynedale. The Seasiders went down 29-20 away to the Northumbrian side on Saturday, their sixth defeat in 10 games. Southend took the lead through a Tom Casson try but the home side responded with three of their own for a 19-10 half-time lead. Both sides added a further try in the second half but the defeat leaves Southend 12th in the league. Tynedale's win was based on a brace of tries for Jack Smailes and Peter Cole, plus nine points from Gavin Beasley. For the visitors, Tom Casson and Rhys Powell each touched down and Andrew Frost kicked 10 points. Southend face a stern test to get the season back to winning ways, when they host league leaders Redruth on Saturday.
