Izzet enjoys Lambert's influence

Colchester United midfielder Kem Izzet says new boss Paul Lambert has already had a positive impact on the club.

Izzet told BBC Essex that Lambert had brought a new confidence to the players despite suffering a home defeat by Millwall on Tuesday.

"He's put his stamp on things and I think you can see the tempo is a lot higher and we're getting in people's faces," said the 28-year-old.

"That's how we should be playing, we need to be hard to beat."

"He doesn't want to see any sad faces or any heads down," he said.

"He doesn't want any negativity, he wants to be positive and I think that's very encouraging around the ground."

Izzet scored Colchester's only goal against Millwall - his first goal of the season and his first at the Community Stadium.

The side are yet to win at their new home, but Izzet felt more performances like the one they put in against the Lions will soon give the U's supporters something to get excited about.

"Without us pushing on we don't give them anything to shout about," he said.

"Credit to ourselves, at times we went for it and to be honest they [the fans] helped us out a lot.

"I think if we can fill this place it will be even more intimidating and that's what we need to do."
