Henry Paul has won six caps for England

The centre has been fined a maximum three weeks' wages and placed on a final written warning for missing three training days earlier this month.

Paul was summoned to a disciplinary hearing at Kingsholm on Friday.

Coach Dean Ryan said the 31-year-old "still had an enormous amount of work to do to erase the damage".

Ryan added that the fine was the maximum penalty available to the club.

Gloucester stated that Paul was punished for failing to attend training on 16, 17 and 18 October.

Last week Paul and scrum-half Peter Richards were dropped for Saturday's European Challenge Cup trip to Bayonne, which Gloucester won 26-10, after an internal disciplinary hearing.

Richards is back in the squad for the game with Romanian side Bucuresti but Paul is still excluded.

Richards, 27, joined from Wasps during the summer and is in the England squad for the November internationals.

Paul crossed codes to join Gloucester in 2001 and has scored over 700 points in just under 100 appearances.

He made his England debut in 2002 and after being on the bench against Italy and Scotland in the 2004 Six Nations, Paul started all three Tests against Canada, South Africa and Australia last autumn.

However he was hauled off after just 26 minutes of the Australia defeat and despite being named in the squad for the clash against France this year, he has not played for England since.

Paul has won a total of six caps for England and was short-listed for the PRA player of the year award in 2004.
